All for one, one for all

This may be one of the most touching videos I’ve seen. The story behind it, is that Rooie Mark, 54 years old has a deadly disease and only have a short time left. One of his last wishes is to watch Feyenoord one more time. However, the season hasn’t started yet so his friends arrange the possibility for him to watch the first training of the season. What Rooie didn’t know was that the fans and players had prepared something really special for him.

Soccer isn’t all about people fighting in the stands.

Rooie passed, sadly, away just three days later.

Grandma Drummer

These types of videos almost always contains a child with super skills early in life. This is the opposite, a cool grandma drummer beating the shit out of the drums.

I hope you all have a great weekend finish. Tomorrow, number 19 in the album list, and a photography to go with it.

About Sweden /-s – once again

Recently I’ve posted a few videos about Sweden and Swedes, and there seems to be no stopping in the number of videos about us Swedes. Some of them more authentic than others. This one is actually more true than you might think 🙂

Thank you Lars for this one

Swedish Midsummer for Dummies

Today we have one of our biggest holidays in Sweden, The Midsummer. Compared to our national day, this one totally outshines in matters of preparation, traditions and so on.

So if you want to have some insight into one of our famous traditions, watch this video. The video is all real, but I guess it’s a big understatement in many ways. 🙂

Swedish Midsummer is sure a crazy party when you look at it from an outside : – )

Astronomers view of earth – the overview effect

What an amazing video this is! If you just have 90 seconds, you’ll get the big picture (literally), at the very start of the video. If you have more, you’ll in for some spectular views of earth, and some really interesting thoughts about us, we, the earth in space.

Actually, I think a video like this in some minor way can change our view of the world, our planet or “spaceship in space”.

I guess that these blogs together might illustrate life in general; we’re all not just one-sided. Everyone has many sides depending on where you choose to look.

Some thoughts for (new) entrepreneurs / managers

© Pedro Hansson - Ekerö December 2012
© Pedro Hansson – Ekerö December 2012

This will be a personal post about a topic that might not be discussed often: being an entrepreneur/manager.

Many times, you find yourself alone with questions that you would most likely prefer to avoid. On the other hand, being a manager offers the opportunity to shape the way you want an organization to function and the values you stand for, which is a fantastic opportunity.

Please note that this is just my opinion, and far from being definitive answers or a guide to being a manager; it is simply my view of the job.

I hope that it can help someone out there.

To you, who might be an entrepreneur/manager for the first time

  • You will never be able to please everyone. Those who are determined to like you will find arguments/reasons to support the decisions you make and see the merit in them. The opposite is also true, of course. In short, be yourself; nothing else works in the long term.
  • Try to see the positive aspects and the potential/strengths in everyone. We are all different, so find what’s unique in each person and reinforce it.
  • Praise in public, criticize in private (an old proverb).
  • Be human. Being a manager is not primarily about having the power to make decisions. It means that you have the opportunity to lead the group on the same journey you are on by being yourself. Not everyone may appreciate this journey; accept it. There is nothing wrong with them, or with you; you are simply different.
  • Whoever wants to be first must be last. My mother said this to me, and as a child, I did not understand what she meant. But as I grow older, my interpretation is that if you do not have the ability to serve others, you will have a hard time finding others who are willing to serve you.
  • Lastly, remember that there was a reason they hired you (for managers), or chose to work with you. They took a chance on you because you are you. Keep that in mind during difficult times.

I suppose all the points above can be summarized with heart, humility, and passion. It would probably have been quicker to just write it like that.

Also, remember that you are only human. You will make mistakes, judge others too harshly, falter when faced with tough decisions, and sometimes feel like you are not good enough… In those moments, read this letter again.

Amazing Shadow Dance

This is a must see! What an amazing show.

Sony RX100? Good buy?

I’m getting a bit curious of buying a Sony RX100 as a complement to my DSLR, and as an upgrade to my old compact, Olympus XZ-1. Seems like a good camera with a reasonable big sensor, bright lens and still a really small camera.

Does anyone have an opinion on this one?

Time Lapse of Planes

Beautiful Time Lapses:
“Five hours of plane landing in 30 seconds” and “Landings at San Diego International”

As the holidays are getting closer many of us will fly “home” to our loved and close ones. When I was younger I used to be really afraid of flying, and every single trip was a long preparation. Which aircraft were I supposed to fly with, what were the accident rates, what are the actual odds of anything happening and so on.

Earlier today I found these two amazing time-lapse videos of planes, landing. What the most of us experience as smooth landings doesn’t look that smooth when they are time lapsed. Notice that the camera is still, and the planes are moving around, not the opposite, in the last one.

I think that these two clips would’ve been a big therapy back in those days, in the preparation of getting “home”.

The technique, with taking out the blue and use it as a “green screen”, seems btw really interesting.

I hope you have a great start of the week.

Time Lapse of New York during Sandy

This is a great time-lapse of New York during the hard days when Sandy moved in over land. If you like photography I think you will enjoy the angles and composition in many of the scenes.

Best wishes to all of you that were in the middle of this storm.

Hope for a quick recovery to a normal situation

Hurricane Sandy – follow the progress via NASA and Twitter

If you want to get a feeling of the size of Hurricane Sandy, Nasa is sharing satellite images. I’m not sure how often these images are updated but the current ones are from 20 hours ago.

I wish all New Yorkers, and the geographic places around NY the best of luck.

Best wishes! Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Sandy will be in her best mood when entering land.

Tihi – Princessan Madeleine / Princess Madeleine, feat Avicii

In Sweden there is a lot of jokes about Princess Madeleine, and her boyfriends video where they announced their proposal. At the end of the video the princess goes Tihi.. This is currently the biggest “talk of the town” in Sweden and many creative videos are starting to pop up around this.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Being upright – a way to a more successful living?

As I’ve written in the Photography section I’ve just arrived back home after a few days abroad together with a colleague of mine. On these journeys there is always an opportunity to talk about things that there otherwise isn’t time to talk about (during normal work weeks). On this journey I think the main topic was being upright, and why people so often choose the opposite.

Lamp in Barcelona – iPhone 4S – © Pedro Hansson

First of all, I really need to point out that no one is perfect, and there are certainly times when I don’t live up to this myself; and of course sometimes you don’t have the possibility to tell everyone everything due to keeping a secret for a friend/family, directions from the board or there are just plain simple business secrets that prevent you from being as upright as you wish.

BUT, those things aside I strongly believe that being upright will make a person (all others aspects alike) more successful, in their lives. When you experience the opposite –  people that doesn’t speak up for their opinions, I sometimes wonder why they aren’t.

We started talking about this when we had a discussion about a customer project, and we’ve always felt that this company is so easy to work with because they are always telling their opinion, and when we know their stand point it’s really easy for us to decide whether we have the possibility to be a good supplier or not. The company in mind is a really successful one, and I think one of the reasons is actually that they are “hard” in many peoples minds because they always speak up their mind, but I think the opposite.

Over the years when I’ve been in the fortunate position of being a customer I must say that I’m sometimes surprised how many sellers/business men react when they’re meeting an upright opinion about their product, their services and so on.

In my personal life I think this is as important as in the business life, BUT of course when you speak about personal matters (which might as well be personal matters in your professional life) there are so many aspects that needs to be addressed that it’s often harder to just being upright. If you don’t pay respect to the other parties person, you might end up on a difficult route.

I think I could write about this for pages, but as this is just a thought so far, I’m leaving the subject here. This is more of a moral, and actually business compass for myself. When we’re choosing and working with our partners, suppliers and customers (yes we’re choosing customers as well to make sure that both parties can achieve success) this is one of the key components.

What’s your opinion on this matter?

I hope you all have a great start of the week.

The image we didn’t get to see from Baumgartners jump

There has been some debate whether Baumgartner did break the sound barrier or not, but yesterday we got the proof that we wanted. Chuck Norris told the press that he passed Baumgartner on his way down and he has made assure that everything was correct. So now we know that the speed record is legitimate.
