Would you survive a nuclear bomb?

This site is quite scary, at least in my opinion. All you have to do is to tell the site where you’re at and the site will show you a map of how bad the cities around you will be affected by a blast.

Scary, but I guess a good way of telling us how terrible these weapons are.

One of the coolest “earth from space” videos I’ve seen

One of the coolest “earth from space” videos I’ve seen.

“Time lapse sequences of photographs taken with a special low-light 4K-camera
by the crew of expedition 28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from
August to October, 2011.”

Is this the new brand that Sony will use now when they’ve finally bought the rest of the Sony Ericsson?

Happy weekend!

We are literally speaking made of star dust

Today Sammi Naughton posted a great link on Facebook, and this is quite fascinating!

“Ultra fascinating discovery. Wow, my mind is racing… Forget all previous theories (love that about science!). Stars have now been shown to be able to create complex organic materials — and they are literally everywhere.

For theologians, apparently if you let there be light, that light has a few ideas of its own — that may be the catalyst of a profound series of events. 😉 Both science and religion can expect to be pondering for a while with this one.

We are made of stardust? Is the universe itself a living thing? Wow, this finding could mean that there is an almost infinite range of possible life, throughout the universe…”

7.000.000.000 people on earth

On monday there will be 7.000.000.000 people on the planet earth (and I guess a few out in space) according to United Nations Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Some facts (quote from worldometers.com):

World Population:

  • reached 6 billion in 1999
  • is predicted to reach 7 billion on October 31, 2011
  • has doubled in 40 years from 1959 (3 billion) to 1999 (6 billion)
  • is currently growing at a rate of around 1.15 % per year
  • growth rate reached its peak in the late 1960s, when it was at 2%
  • growth rate is currently declining and is projected to continue to decline in the coming years
  • average annual population change is currently estimated at over 77 million
  • world population will nearly stabilize at just above 10 billion persons after 2200
  • a tremendous change occurred with the industrial revolution: whereas it had taken all of human history up to the year 1800 for world population to reach 1 billion, the second billion was achieved in only 130 years (1930), the third billion in less than 30 years (1959), the fourth billion in 15 years (1974), the fifth billion in 13 years (1987), the sixth billion in 12 years (1999) and the seventh billion in 12 years (2011). During the 20th century alone, the population in the world has grown from 1.65 billion to 6 billion.

Spherical flying machine

This is one of the coolest flying machines I’ve ever seen. Can think of so many situations when this could be helpful, but I guess the military will be first in using it, as always.

Looks amazing!

Spoon-trick

Ok, this is a little evil and childish but I can’t help laughing every time I see it! It’s not necessary to understand the language to understand the video… 🙂

Enjoy!

Hans Rosling – World statistics presented with animations

If you still haven’t seen Hans Roslings speeches about the world and where we are heading, you might think that this is interesting. It’s a bit long but watchable in bits.

Get ready for the next natural disaster inside a big yellow ball?!

Well this is an invention that’s a little different. A big yellow ball to hide in when things get rough… Would you like to hide in one of those? It looks funny but maybe the idea isn’t so bad? What do you think?

IKEA opens day center for men

In Swedish at the botton of the page:

Ikea opens man’s kindergarten
(translated from http://di.se/Default.aspx?pid=246329__ArticlePageProvider&epslanguage=sv&referrer= with Google Translate)

2011-09-28 20:17
First came Little land, where children can play and pass the time while their parents shop at Ikea. Now open “Man’s Land”, where the men can play games, watch sports television and eating hot dogs while women shop in peace.

It writes retail newsletter Market.se.

That’s when the furniture giant is investing heavily in Australia and southern hemisphere’s largest Ikea stores will open in Melbourne that you are investing in a “male-kindergarten”

There may be reluctant to submit to their women who receive a box that automatically reminds you when it’s time to get on the Men’s land. In the meantime, they can pass the time playing console games, pinball, watch sports television and sink into the sofas with a free hot dog.

According Ylva Magnusson, press officer at Ikea Sweden, there are no plans to open a male kindergarten in one of the stores in Sweden.

Ikea öppnar mansdagis (från http://di.se/Default.aspx?pid=246329__ArticlePageProvider&epslanguage=sv&referrer=)

“2011-09-28 20:17
